Essential Tips for Keeping Your Dog Cool This Summer

Essential Tips for Keeping Your Dog Cool This Summer

As the mercury rises during the Australian Summer, our doggos need extra care to stay cool and comfortable. Here are my top tips to help you ensure your doggo enjoys a safe and fun summer.

1. Create a Cool Oasis

Your home should be a haven from the heat. Keep your dog's space cool with air conditioning or fans. Consider investing in cooling mats available in our store, which provide a cooler surface for your doggo to relax on.

2. Hydration Station

Always ensure your dog has access to fresh, clean water. Consider adding ice cubes to their water bowl for extra refreshment. Alternatively there are solutions like the Frosty Bowl which is a bowl that can go into the freezer.

3. Plan Walks Wisely

Avoid the midday heat. Early morning or late evening walks are best. Feel the pavement with your hand; if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog's paws. Consider carrying a dog water bottle.

4. Shady Business

When outside, ensure your dog has access to shade. Trees are great, but sometimes a doggy sun umbrella or a pop-up tent can provide portable shade solutions.

5. Fun Water Activities

Encourage your dog to play in a kiddie pool or run through a sprinkler. It's a fun way to cool down! We have a range of water toys to make this activity even more enjoyable for your doggo. Check out our splash mat and fold up dog pool

7. Avoid Overexertion

Keep playtime light and avoid strenuous exercise. Offer plenty of rest breaks during activities, especially on hot days.

8. Watch for Signs of Heatstroke

Signs include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and in severe cases, collapse. If you suspect heatstroke, move your dog to a cool area, apply wet towels, and seek veterinary attention immediately.

Remember, your dog relies on you for their comfort and safety. With these tips, you can ensure they stay cool, hydrated, and happy all summer long.
